The General Hyperplane Section of a Curve

چکیده
In this paper, we discuss some necessary and sufficient conditions for a curve to be arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay, in terms of its general hyperplane section. We obtain a characterization of the degree matrices that can occur for points in the plane that are the general plane section of a non arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay curve of P. We prove that almost all the degree matrices with positive subdiagonal that occur for the general plane section of a non arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay curve of P, arise also as degree matrices of some smooth, integral, non arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay curve, and we characterize the exceptions. We give a necessary condition on the graded Betti numbers of the general plane section of an arithmetically Buchsbaum (non arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay) curve in P. For curves in P, we show that any set of Betti numbers that satisfy that condition can be realised as the Betti numbers of the general plane section of an arithmetically Buchsbaum, non arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay curve. We also show that the matrices that arise as degree matrix of the general plane section of an arithmetically Buchsbaum, integral, (smooth) non arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay space curve are exactly those that arise as degree matrix of the general plane section of an arithmetically Buchsbaum, non arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay space curve and have positive subdiagonal. We also prove some bounds on the dimension of the deficiency module of an arithmetically Buchsbaum space curve, in terms of the degree matrix of the general plane section of the curve. Interpolation with Bounded Error
Given n general points p1, p2, . . . , pn ∈ Pr it is natural to ask whether there is a curve of given degree d and genus g passing through them; by counting dimensions a natural conjecture is that such a curve exists if and only if n ≤ ⌊ (r + 1)d− (r − 3)(g − 1) r − 1 ⌋ . The case of curves with nonspecial hyperplane section was recently studied in [1], where the above conjecture was shown to h...
متن کاملOn the Second Gaussian Map for Curves on a K3 Surface
By a theorem of Wahl, for canonically embedded curves which are hyperplane sections of K3 surfaces, the first gaussian map is not surjective. In this paper we prove that if C is a general hyperplane section of high genus (greater than 280) of a general polarized K3 surface, then the second gaussian map of C is surjective. The resulting bound for the genus g of a general curve with surjective se...

Here we study cohomological and geometrical properties of the general zero-dimensional section of a nonreduced curve C P n and (in positive characteristic) of an integral variety. 0. Introduction The main actors in this paper will be zero-dimensional subschemes of a projective space P r. This paper consists of three parts. The link between the three parts is given by the common main actors. The...

Here we prove that the minimal free resolution of a general space curve of large degree (e.g. a general space curve of degree d and genus g with d ≥ g + 3, except for finitely many pairs (d, g)) is the expected one. A similar result holds even for general curves with special hyperplane section and, roughly, d ≥ g/2. The proof uses the so-called methode d’Horace.
